Australian issued War medal correctly named to 667 PTE. R.J.SMITH 15-BN A.I.F. Richard Joseph Smith originally from Mile End London before emigrating to Australia joined AIF on 21/9/14 in Brisbane. After training in Egypt the 15th Battalion landed Gallipoli 25/4/15, Richard fought with D Company and along with many other soldiers suffered with Dysentery And was evacuated to hospital and returned, he is shown being WIA at Gallipoli on 3/9/15 and died of wounds on the hospital ship H.S SALTA 2 days later. He was buried at sea. His records show that his medals and plaque were sent to his family in London so hopefully the other medals might one day turn up.
