WW1 Australian Rising Sun, Unique to photographic studio

Very unusual item that i bought years ago from an antiques dealer who had purchased the contents of a defunct photographic studio in London. Many wartime photo studios carried props to enhance the soldiers photos such as the walking canes seen being held by these two young men. I am guessing that for what ever reason the studio had this A.I.F Rising Sun made and as you can see used it for the peaked hat shown in these 2 photos, i cannot see any other uniform insignia. Other than what you see here the rest is a mystery
