The Witwatersrand Rifles (WR) is one of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished military units, with a rich history of service Established: 1 May 1903 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Named after the Witwatersrand, a region known for its gold mines. Originally formed as a part-time volunteer regiment for local defense and security during the turbulent years following the South African War (Boer War).
