First world war Canadian Expeditionary Force 240th Infantry Battalion cap badge.
Established in Renfrew, Ontario, in the spring of 1916, it recruited soldiers from the counties of Lanark, Renfrew, and Frontenac. The battalion embarked for England in May 1917, and by June 1917, its personnel were absorbed into the 7th Reserve Battalion to reinforce Canadian forces at the front.
